She is an Argentinean who has Scottish, English and Argentinean descendance. Her mother has Spanish and English ancestry. Taylor-Joy is the youngest of five children. Four of them are from Taylor's father's prior marriage. They lived in Buenos Aires until she was six years old, and then moved to the Victoria part of London. According to Taylor-Joy, this relocation was difficult and she refused to learn English in the hopes of returning to Argentina. Hill House had to be her new school after she changed schools from Northlands. In the following year, she joined Queen's Gate School to study dance and perform in productions of the school. At the age of 16, she quit school to pursue a full-time career in acting. Since her early years, Taylor-Joy had a dream to be an actor and her dreams came true when she received a modeling contract by Sarah Doukas the founder of Storm Management.
